Dedicated to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ

1 Samuel 16:15-17:11, I Defy the Armies of Israel This Day

Saul becomes oppressed by a distressing spirit, but is soothed when the shepherd David plays the harp for him.  The Philistine and Israelite armies gather for battle in the Valley of Elah.  The Philistine giant Goliath taunts the Israelites – “‘I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.’  When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.” (1 Samuel 17:10-11 NKJV).

Drawing from related Scriptures, Pastor Kevin explains the reason and origin of Saul’s distressing spirit and why David’s worshipful music caused the spirit to temporarily depart.  Just as music that glorifies God can edify and protect us, Pastor Kevin warns us that the world’s music can exert demonic influences in our lives and homes.  Pastor Kevin draws parallels between the biblical account of the Israelites and the Philistines and the Israel’s current conflict with Hamas in Gaza (ancient Philistia).
