Dedicated to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ

1 Samuel 18:5-19:18, David Behaved Wisely – The Lord Was with Him

After David kills Goliath, he becomes Saul’s General piling up several military victories over the Philistines.  David becomes so popular with the people that the women who are greeting the returning victors sing, “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.” (1 Samuel 18:7 NKJV)

This infuriates Saul who is gripped with pride, bitter envy and self-seeking.  Pastor Kevin uses the warning of James to exhort us to not follow in Saul’s footsteps: “This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.” (James 3:15-16 NKJV)

Sadly, Saul grows worse-and-worse in his rejection of God’s laws to the point of attempting to murder David, even after vowing to God that he would not.

Throughout this communion emphasis study, Pastor Kevin shows the differences between the actions of fleshly/demonically oppressed Saul, and the Spirit led David.

Three thousand years later, the same battle line is drawn for all mankind.  Are we going to surrender our own self-centered will to God or are we going to pursue the deceptions of our flesh/Satan?  The result throughout the Bible is clear, the Spirit gives life, but the flesh brings death.

Maranatha!
