Exodus 12:43-13:16 – With Communion Message
In our passage today, the Jews have just completed their very first Passover and are now on the move towards the promised land of Canaan. God commands the Jews to forever remember that it took the mighty hand of the Lord to defeat Pharaoh in order to allow them to be released from the bondage of slavery.
God emphasizes several aspects that must be observed during future Passovers that can be equated to the New Covenant sacrament of Communion. No foreigner who is uncircumcised is to take part in Passover; no person is to take communion who is not circumcised of heart in true saving faith in Jesus as their savior.
The bones of future sacrificial Passover lambs are not to be broken; Jesus was the Lamb of God to take away the sins of the world, and His bones were not broken.
Future generations of Jews were to teach their children about what God did to set them free from Egyptian bondage, we are to teach our children and anyone who will listen that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
Pastor Kevin brings out other parallels from scripture and then closes with an invitation for the unbeliever to give their lives to Jesus and become circumcised of heart before closing with a communion emphasis from Luke’s gospel.
