On this Mother’s Day 2023, we continue our study in Hebrews 11 looking at the life of Sarah, Abraham’s wife and one of two women listed in God’s “Faith Hall of Fame.” Like us, Sarah’s faith faltered at times, and although she and Abraham resorted to human methods to provide a son for Abraham through her handmaiden Hagar, she believed God’s promise that she would bear the son of promise, Isaac. Because she believed, she “received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised” (Hebrews 11:11), and God testifies of her faith in His Faith Hall of Fame. That the Jews are alive and dwelling in the land of promise today is yet more evidence that God kept His promise to Abraham and Sarah. In the same way, believers today can trust that God will keep His promises to us, including the promise to provide “a better, that is, a heavenly country…for He has prepared a city for them [us]” (Hebrews 11:16).
