Dedicated to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ

No, But We Will Have a King Over Us! 1 Samuel 8:9-10:1

God tells Samuel to obey the peoples’ demand for a king, but instructs him to “solemnly forewarn them, and show them the behavior of the king who will reign over them” (1 Samuel 8:9 NKJV).  The people respond, “No, but we will have a king over us” (1 Samuel 8:19 NKJV)!  God leads Samuel to His choice, and Samuel anoints Saul as Israel’s first king.

The ancient Israelites desired a human king to rule over them instead of God.  In this, we see man’s natural tendency to depend on the world’s temporary and deficient systems for security and satisfaction instead of God.  Pastor Kevin exhorts believers to depend solely on Jesus, our perfect Savior, Priest and King, the only One Who can forgive sins and grant eternal life.

Maranatha!
