Dedicated to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ

Some Were Persuaded, Some Disbelieved – Acts 28:1–31

After three months on the island of Malta, Paul and the rest of his shipwrecked company set sail again for Italy, landing in Puteoli (Pozzuoli today, near Naples) and then traveling by land north to Rome.  As was his custom, Paul preached first to the Jews in Rome, “…persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening.  And some were persuaded by the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved.  Then Paul dwelt two whole years in his own rented house, and received all who came to him preaching the kingdom of God and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ with all confidence, no one forbidding him.” (Acts 28:23-24; 30-31 NKJV).

In this dramatic conclusion to the Book of Acts, we see once again how “some were persuaded, some disbelieved” the gospel that Paul preached throughout his ministry.  The same is true today for Jews and Gentiles alike.

Pastor Kevin highlights the many details in this chapter that showed how God used Paul to bring people to faith in Jesus, all along this perilous journey, finally settling in Rome, the center of the then-known world, where he is allowed to freely proclaim the gospel for two years.  May we, like Paul, be faithful in “preaching the kingdom of God and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ with all confidence” until Jesus comes again!
