As David returns from exile, he encounters Saul’s grandson Mephibosheth and Barzillai the Gileadite, who had aided David during his stay in Mahanaim. His arrival in Gilgal precipitates further conflict between Judah and the northern tribes. “Sheba the son of Bichri, a Benjamite… said: ‘We have no share in David, nor do we have inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to his tents, O Israel’” (2 Samuel 20:1 NKJV).
In today’s study, we see more parallels between the life of David and his descendent, Jesus the Messiah. In the same way that the Israelites rejected David, so too did the people reject Jesus’ lordship 2,000 years ago and continue to do so to the present day. As we see hostility towards God’s people increase in our world today, Pastor Kevin exhorts believers to remain loyal to our Lord and Savior Jesus regardless of the circumstances. God has a purpose for each one of us, and He wants to use even our suffering for His glory and our good.
