The most comforting words for these perilous times are simply, “Jesus is coming back.” Yes, we are fully aware of this precious truth, but there’s something about reminding ourselves of this anticipation that soothes our souls and puts a smile on our faces. There’s such a sweet relief that comes from remembering our “blessed hope” and setting our affections on it.
Even though I spend most days writing about Bible prophecy, I felt joy bubble up inside of me the first time I heard the song Jesus Is Coming Back by Jordan Feliz. It came at the beginning of a long drive home and boosted my spirits for the remainder of the day.
Why is it that the words “Jesus is coming back” thrills our hearts as nothing else can?
The Words Bring Purpose to Our Lives
The message that “Jesus is coming back” brings purpose to our everyday lives because we know that He will not overlook even the smallest of ways that we honor or serve Him. Others may totally overlook these things and some may even scoff, but Jesus’ return puts an eternal perspective into even the most mundane tasks.
Regardless of our gifts, talents, opportunities, and even health, we can serve the Lord in the simplest of ways and know that He will reward us. Knowing that Jesus might appear at any moment certainly motivates us in this regard, but it also assures us He will not overlook our prayers for others, giving, helping others in need, or serving those close to us.
In 1 Corinthians 15:58, the apostle writes this after writing that the Lord will give us imperishable bodies at His appearing:
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
The thought that Jesus might appear at any moment to take us to glory adds significance to the simplest of tasks in our everyday lives. Our anticipation of appearing before Jesus clarifies what’s important in this life. Who can even begin to compare the praise of others with the glory of hearing these simple words from our Savior, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant?” …
