Dedicated to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ

The Empty Tomb, Are You Mindful Of The Things Of God Or The Things Of Men? Resurrection Sunday 2020

In this 2020 Resurrection Sunday service, Pastor Kevin titles the teaching, “Are you Mindful of the Things of God, or the Things of Man?”  This comes from Jesus’ rebuke of Peter in Matthew 16:22.  The rebuke was necessitated after Jesus had told the disciples that he would be killed and then be raised on the third day.  Peter, only listening to the first part of Jesus’ declaration (that he would be killed), replied to Jesus saying, “Far be it from You [that Jesus would be killed], Lord; this shall not happen to You!”  Jesus then said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men”

Pastor Kevin then covers the other four times Jesus warned His disciples that he was going to be killed and raise again on the third day.  Each time it was clear that they did not believe him.  In fact, it is obvious from the four gospel accounts that they didn’t believe Jesus had resurrected until they saw him with their own eyes.

In going through the time line of that first resurrection Sunday, Kevin refutes the claim that there are contradictions between the gospel writers.  He does so by showing that a careful understanding of what day Jesus was crucified (Wednesday, not Friday) eliminates some of the confusion.  Other apparent contradictions are also easily explained by realizing that the women did not all show up at the tomb together, that some arrived and left before others arrived, and that Mary came at least twice (before and after telling Peter and John that the tomb was empty).

In conclusion, it is historically proven that Jesus did raise from the grave, and people who reject the resurrection today have the same problem that Peter did before he repented and believed; that is, they are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of Man.  I pray that everyone who has rejected up until now will repent as Peter did while there is still time.

He is Risen!!!!  He is Risen Indeed!!!!
